The Rape of the Sabine Women by Grace B. Mathias

A PLAY BY MICHAEL YATES CROWLEY

DIRECTED BY ACCLAIMED LOCAL ARTIST ALICIA HUNT, PLAYWRIGHT MICHAEL YATES CROWLEY'S 2017 PLAY IS A DEFTLY SATIRICAL PIECE, TOUCHING ON THE MOST CHALLENGING OF CONTEMPORARY ISSUES.

Originally developed as part of The Playwrights Realm Writing Fellowship 2014-15, this play had its world premiere in New York in 2017. Bike City Theatre Company is proud to host the play’s West Coast debut as part of our ongoing commitment to new work.

The Playwrights Realm offers that “[w]hen Grace B. Matthias is raped, her world spirals into chaos. Between navigating emotionally unstable guidance counselors, overbearing lawyers, an angry championship football team, and useless Wikipedia answers, Grace tries to make sense of her world anew. A complex collision of satire and dark comedy, Michael Yates Crowley’s play fearlessly explores rape culture in America.” Hailed by the New York Times, The Rape of the Sabine Women, by Grace B. Matthias is "a serious effort to dramatize a rape and its repercussions" which "also dares itself to be a satire.”
